What type of plastic can be recycled?

Do you have any doubts about which types of plastic you can recycle? Packwise has created a guide for you, which explains about the different types of plastic that can be recycled.

Recyclable plastic

It is our job as consumers to take responsibility for our plastic consumption and make sure that we recycle as much plastic as possible. However, not all types of plastic are suitable for recycling. Here is a brief overview of the types of plastic that can be recycled:

1. Polyethylene (PE) is one of the most recyclable types of plastic and can be recycled to make new products such as plastic bags, pipelines and furniture.

2. Polypropylene (PP) can be used for a wide variety of products, including toys and lunch boxes.

3. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) can be recycled to make food and beverage packaging, including water bottles and soda bottles.

4. Polyamide (PA) can be recycled for textile production, cables and brushes.

It is important to remember that although one type of plastic can be recycled, it does not mean that it will be recycled. It is therefore important to properly sort our plastic waste and follow local recycling rules to ensure that as much plastic as possible can be recycled and reduce our impact on the environment.

Sustainable brands

Are you curious to know which brands use recycled plastic for their products? More and more skincare brands are starting to make use of recyclable plastic as part of their sustainability initiatives. Below, Packwise has collected some brands within skincare and makeup that use recycled plastic.

• Aveda
  Aveda is a beauty brand that focuses on sustainability and environmental awareness. Their packaging is made of recyclable plastic, and they continue to work to reduce their carbon emissions and increase their use of recycled materials.
  
  
• Garnier
  Garnier is a French cosmetics company that recognizes that consumer expectations have changed and that they want to support a brand committed to sustainable development. Garnier already uses recycled plastics in its packaging, but by 2025 the company will be manufacturing packaging from recycled or degradable materials to ensure that all Garnier factories are CO2Garnier has been touring with their “Mobile Greenhouse pop-up”, which they designed to educate consumers about their sustainability efforts.
  
  
• Lush
  Lush is a cosmetics brand that has made sustainability part of their mission. Their packaging is recycled and they have also introduced a “refill” scheme for their products to reduce the amount of waste.
