Special packaging design creates visual branding factor

How to hang a special packaging design and bag-in-box the wine together? Most people are probably familiar with the bag-in-box wine.

Wine packaging has previously suffered from the predicate of “quantity and not quality”, which does not really fit into a quality category such as wine. However, more of the well-known grapes are gradually available in bag-in-box packaging, increasing competition on supermarket shelves.

A special packaging design, like the one in the image above, can create eye-catchers and determine the outcome - purchase vs. non-purchase.

Below, I'll take you through what benefits there can be to bag-in-box concepts, including what a special packaging design might have of significance.

Inner and outer benefits of bag-in-box concepts

As long as the content is of a proper quality, quantity is certainly not a bad thing. Just take the cozy evenings in the layers of friends on those late summer evenings, when the first bottle quickly gets legs to go on. That being said, there are also some commercial benefits to having a larger packaging format.

Branding

As previously described, there are clear advantages to having a large surface on the packaging. The surface, through creative design, can be used to both tell a story and convey moods. The photo at the top shows a bag-in-box example, which can rightly be characterized as a special packaging design.

The packaging has clear connotations for many women's faithful friend: the handbag. With this visual branding, the French wine brand appeals to the feminine consumer with references to the numerous popular French handbags.

This bag-in-box, disguised as a handbag, is therefore the innocent bid to make the luscious drops dazzle into the public eye, while maintaining the feminine of course.

The packaging material

The packaging material used for bag-in-box solutions is most often heavy-duty, stiffened cardboard, which in addition to protecting the inner bag of wine, also allows various branding options in the form of, for example, embossing and printing.

In the specific example, the material is designed to support and enhance the visual expression, which is just one of the advantages of choosing (environmentally friendly) cardboard for your packaging.

Functionality

Nice design and visual tools are not worth much if the functionality does not come with it. Functionality is one of the most important success factors in your packaging. If the functionality works and is even designed in line with the rest of the packaging, you have hit the spot. For example, one of the essential features of the packaging on the top billet is that it can be transported effortlessly.

Traditional bag-in-box wine packaging typically has a small anonymous plastic hook at the top, whereas the packaging in the top picture has a longer cotton cord, which appears comfortable and completes the handbag look.
